Professional Speaker's Benefit Fund
In 1983, the wife of a NSA member who was in his nineties and had outlived his assets, asked for some financial help from a few speaker friends. Several speakers responded immediately with checks. When the man died, his widow offered to repay the money with insurance proceeds.
Realizing that other members might one day be in a similar situation, Nido Qubein, CSP, CPAE, suggested using the funds to form a Foundation. Its mission is to aid those who may be indigent, face catastrophic health emergencies or losses, or outlive their assets.
Guidelines for Applying for a PSBF Grant
Members can request assistance themselves, or NSA members can make requests for someone they know who has an immediate need.
- Any member of NSA, who has been in good standing for at least three years, may be eligible for funds in the form of a grant or a loan.
- Any former member of NSA, who was a member in good standing for at least five years, may be eligible for funds in the form of a grant or a loan.
- The Committee chair must talk personally to the applicant, or where not possible, to the closest relative to determine need and circumstances. PSBF funds are intended for members and their families who may be indigent, face catastrophic health emergencies, catastrophic losses due to fire/ earthquake/ tornado/ etc. or outlive their assets.
